What is Mental Performance Training?

Mental performance training builds psychological skills that will contribute to better performance and well-being. Just like we train and practice the physical, technical, and tactical parts of the game, dedicated mental performance training can improve the psychological side of your performance. All of my work is evidence-based and backed by sports psychology research.

How can mental skills help me?

Our minds and bodies are connected. How we prepare and perform mentally influences how we prepare and perform physically and vice-versa. When your mind is working in positive and productive ways, it helps you perform closer to your best on any given day.

Not only will we explore how mental performance training can improve your performance in sports, but we will also learn how to use these skills to be a better person every day. All of the skills you will learn in mental performance training can be transferred to school, other sports, work, relationships, and more. You will continue to build these skills your whole life, regardless if you’re actively involved in sports or not.

Nothing is wrong with me. Why should I learn mental skills?

Mental performance training isn’t just for bad days—though it certainly helps then, too. We’re all about building these mental skills now, so you can reach for them whenever you need them. Once you get used to these skills, you’ll find yourself using them all the time—on and off the field. Our focus is on long-term growth, not short-term results.

We’re all capable of learning and growing as people and athletes. When we adopt a growth mindset, we’re always looking for ways to improve. Through hard work, good strategies, and input from others, you’ll continue to grow and develop, no matter where you’re starting from.

Do kids really need mental skills?

Yes! In fact, now is a great time to start to learn. As you develop physically and psychologically, you may learn mental skills more effectively than some adults. Imagine trying to play soccer now if you never learned how to dribble. It would be challenging, right? We want to build a strong base of mental skills that will be there for you to add to as you get older.

What is your job?

Like your coach on the field, I’m here to teach you the skills to help you succeed in mental performance. As a mental performance coach, my job is to show you how to take skills like focus and confidence, practice them, and use them in training, performance, and everyday life. I am not a therapist or psychologist. My focus is to help you grow as an athlete and as a person.

What do I need to do?

Mental skills take a lot of practice, and it may seem difficult at times. The more you practice, the better you’ll get. These mental skills should be worked into your physical practice routine and trained consistently. If you’re committed to learning and improving, you will succeed!
